In the outskirts of San Cristobal find sites of great natural wealth that will allow you to discover the ecological importance of Chiapas jungle habitat.
Ecological Reserve Huitepec. It is located 11 km northwest of San Cristobal de las Casas. It is one of the natural areas of more recent creation in the region, with a major cloud forest vegetation of mountain inhabited by various species of wildlife such as birds, rodents, amphibians and reptiles. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 16:00 pm.
The Arcotete. It is located at 4 km northeast of San Cristobal de Las Casas. It has incredible rock formations surrounded by forests of pine, oak and cypress trees inhabited by squirrels, chachalaca and Correcaminos. It is ideal for ecotourism. Open every day from 9:00 to 17:00 pm.
Ecological Reserve in Rancho Nuevo. It is located 10 km southeast of San Cristobal de las Casas, a federal highway No.. 190. In this region of lush jungle vegetation, you’ll find flora typical of coniferous forest, among them find examples of medicinal plants such as chamomile. When touring the site will also observe skunks, weasels, bats, armadillos, doves, deer, bird barranqueño and tlacuaches, among others.
